Built 1973 - Closed 1997 - Demolished soon I hope

As I was taking this image of New St Andrew's House from Calton Hill a passing tourist commented "how did they get permission to built that in such a beautiful town ?". I tried to explain that at the time such brutal modernism was seen as progress and it did replace buildings that the city had let fall into semi slum disrepair, but the tourist was not persuaded.

The hazy effect is not my poor focus but the chicken wire covering the building to stop crumbling concrete falling on the public below.
