Long Standing

A rather overcast day today but the moody weather was perfect for a walk across Machrie Moor, on the Western side of Arran, to visit the remains of six Neolithic stone circles dating from about 2000 BC. Evidence suggests that at least two of the circles were placed on the sites of earlier wooden circles so, clearly, the area has a deep-rooted spiritual significance.

It's impossible not to be moved by the circles or to wonder about the people who built them. The whole experience will stay with me for a long time.
