Virtual Reality on Paper

Today the rain could be measured in cm rather than mm so it was mostly a day spent indoors.  Instead of roaming the forest for real I could do it in my imagination using this extremely detailed map. It shows 29 points to find in this area, both inside Härnösand and on the edge of town.  It’s the fourth and final section of the summer’s “Find Härnösand” activity, encouraging people to get out and about finding all or some of these points.  On this section 10 points are accessible for wheelchair users, 13 for those pushing prams, 15 for cyclist and the final 14 points can only be reached on foot.  It’s a great idea and slightly addictive once you start picking off the points!
I’ve been fascinated by walking maps since I was a teenager and these orienteering maps are among the best. In some ways maps are an early example of virtual reality!!
