Sorrento Street Life

The reason that we are in Sorrento is to celebrate a "significant birthday" of a friend, Martyn. His wife, Mollie, organised a surprise birthday party for him, at a really beautiful hotel in Sorrento. We have all kept the party a secret from Martyn for about a year. He thought it was just the two of them plus another couple who were going on holiday. We didn't want to spoil the surprise by letting him know we were all in Sorrento as they often follow our Blips, hence the self-imposed Blip-silence over the last few days.
There were getting on for 40 of us at the party, and most of us all live in the same village.. We arrived at the hotel at 7pm and were shown in, one couple at a time, to the garden terrace, where Martyn and Mollie were. His look of amazement got bigger and bigger with each couple that entered, culminating in his son and daughter, when he could no longer keep his stiff upper lip. I think we were all a bit damp-eyed at that point.
What a fantastic and memorable evening we all had. The food and wine were wonderful, and we danced to live music out doors on the terrace overlooking the Bay of Naples.
We mostly travelled separately and are staying all around Sorrento. It's very odd to keep bumping into people from back in our village!

Happy Birthday Martyn if you read this, and thanks Mollie for such an unforgettable and once-in-a-lifetime party.
