All About Eve

I spotted this door whilst I was in Menston with my friend Alan on our way for a coffee. ( Day off :ergo coffee must be drunk in a public establishment)

Alan told me that the guy who owned the house was always having people stop to take photos so just to wave and go ahead with the camera.

The guy, Mac, came out to talk to us and gave us the history behind the door. He has been raising funds for a little girl called
Eve in the village who has cerebral palsy who needs £100,000 for an operation in America. He has two collection piggy banks in the bakery opposite his house. One for if you don't like the door and one for if you do , so a win win for Eve's collection.

He invited us into his house which was like some Alice in Wonderland cornucopia and completely enchanting, as was he.

He paints his door regularly to give it a contemporary feel and this week he is adding the Olympic torch and the five rings. The aeroplane on the door is staying as that's to symbolise that the village has achieved it's aim and Eve is flying to The States soon and her surgery date is the 5th July.

As we went to the bakery with our donations, the baker told us that Eve's fund is up at £100,000 and that Mac's door has raised over £300. We also found out that Mac himself is dealing with cancer.

What a community, what a feel good tale.

More Eve
