Quechee Gorge, Vermont

We drove the Kancamagus Highway across the White Mountains to Lincoln this morning. The Kanc, as it is known, is one of the most popular foliage routes in Fall but, probably because there is only the faintest hint of colour on the leaves, was almost traffic free.

Autumn colour or not, it is still a beautiful road with lots of places to stop and admire covered bridges and waterfalls. We chose the pine scented walk to the Sabbaday Falls ( see extras)

From here we drove down through Hanover, home to Dartmouth College, where anyone over the age of 25 seemed to have been rounded up and carted off to somewhere else.

We are staying here at Quechee Gorge tonight where we timed a dusk walk to the bridge that spans it perfectly to coincide with this balloon flight.

There was still time for a competitive game of mini golf (Tess claims she won once handicaps were taken into account!) and a swim in the hotel pool before dinner. A good job too as the enormous pizza I ordered was the second time I was beaten this evening and a doggy bag was called for.
