Beauty........

.........Revealed

Today, these Kina show the beauty that is hidden under the spikes in yesterday’s blip.

In this photo the lovely patterns can now be seen as well as both sides of the shell.
This is how they are usually found when washed up on the beach.
These two are quite small - the larger one is about 3.75cm across and the smaller shell in the front is about 2.5cm.

Kina are also known as sea egg and common sea urchin. They are endemic to New Zealand and found all around the NZ coast in shallow water. This is the most common of the 70 species of urchins found in our waters.

Thank you  for all your comments and stars for yesterday’s TinyTuesday blip which showed a close-up view of the kina shell and spines.

I’m sorry I couldn’t comment on your journal entries yesterday. I managed to look, read and leave stars and I hope to be back commenting again this evening.
