Life in Sunny Dubai

I love dates, especially ones like todays which read the same forward and backwards! I have a date buddy and whoever notices a unique date first gets icecream bought for them... silly game, but good if you want to teach observation skills!

So... it was the longest day of the year today, which in Dubai meant the sun set at 7:12pm (or 1912HRS if you prefer). Not a particularly long day by European standards. Think the temperature got up to 43degC but it felt like 48. Humidity pretty high too, and as I am running around getting the new flat ready to move into, I was outdoors a bit! I always say, going outdoors is like walking into an oven, and if there is a breeze, it feels like a fan-assisted oven!!!

The picture above was taken about 30mins before sunset, at the junction that over 90% of my journeys begin at. The buildings are Etisalat (telco), Dubai World Trade Centre, you can just see Emirates Towers (triangle shaped) and one or two others on SZR. What looks like a bridge on the right is our Red Metro Line (yes, it is over ground more than under).

It is a bit ironic that for a City that has some of the tallest buildings in the world, we hardly ever get clear days to enjoy the views from them! C'est la vie!
