clatty & squalid

Finally got round to visiting the Tracey Emin thingby at the SNGoMA along with everyone else who had forgotten about it until now and rushed along on the last day. As usual with these people who first impinge upon the conciousness due to their attitude to their industry and the media rather than their work it's always interesting to see what they do in between sneering whilst explaining their latest Thing and snapping at John Humphrys on HIGNFY. Emin's forté would appear to be appliquéd blankets rather than traditional paintings or drawings (though the scrap-wood roller-coaster track was quite well-done) but a large amount of her stuff (of that which was in the exhibition and wasn't destroyed in the early nineties) seems to be primarily word-based rather than designy/graphical/picturey. Makes you wonder what she'd be like as a lyricist or songwriter had she gone into that sort of area or indeed what she'd be like as a writer if she'd stayed at school a little longer. If it hadn't finished today I'd probably recommend it; no idea if it's going on tour or if it was just a one-off.
