Amberley Castle, West Sussex

A new experience for us today, lunch in a real live Castle to celebrate our 48th Wedding Anniversary. The sun shone, the food was excellent and after 48 years of fabulous experiences, this was probably one of the best places we have ever been in Britain. Food, setting, service, people. A walk round the beautiful grounds afterwards finished off a lovely day. Well worth cutting out the coupon from the local paper which made lunch cheaper than the afternoon tea we had originally planned!
Bit different from 48 years ago, us too! The place we had our wedding reception was quite a nice large house belonging to the Co-op – hatches, matches and despatches. But when we went back a few years ago it was a pub, locally known as Mucky Dicks, ok so long as you wanted ketchup with everything. If you had told the Me back in 1967 that one day I would be dining in a proper 900 year old castle, I would probably have been terrified. A fabulous journey together.

For those bored by food, I apologise, read no further. But this is my journal and I want to remember the lovely menu. (This is their lunchtime Amberley Taster menu, so the portions are small and we didn’t end up feeling we would never eat again)

Appetiser:  Pepper and Cheese cakes with rosemary roasted almonds
