Aquamarine/Nanna K's Day

Yellowstone

Well we had to go on a ranger walk in the morning around the upper geyser basin.   I loved seeing the bison there in the mists.  They like to walk where it’s warm  (footprints in the colorful algae extra) but sometimes have misjudged and fallen through the thin crust into a very hot pool and died.   . We talked to a woman who is a self appointed “geyser gazer”, (along with many others.)  she was monitoring a very small slit in the earth that has started to erupt irregularly.  She has a lot of patience. :-)  Earthquakes are the main thing that change the patterns…but humans too if they throw things in the pools to plug them up.   Lion geyser performed for us while we were there…(extra) Took a ride in the afternoon to the other side, looking for wildlife —saw more bison and elk but no bears!   Both H and I remember being in Yellowstone as kids when the bears were everywhere, mostly near the garbage cans.  His Dad has an earlier story of a bear going through their car…
