WOW-World of Wearable Arts

The Historical Assn went to the WOW Museum in Nelson today. Set up in 2010 it showcases the annual winners from the WOW awards.

Visualise a piece of art in a frame on the wall but made into a wearable piece and put on the human body and you have the basic concept of wearable art.

Started as a fundraiser in a small community hall it has grown to be a major art show not just in NZ but throughout the world.Hundreds of entries from around the world are whittled down to about 120 for the show.
A feast of creativity and quirkiness.
All sorts of materials used from stainless steel to plastics, leather to canvas, cured fish skin to bread bag tags. You name it, it will have been made into a creation.
Themes change every year but peoples imaginations seem to get wilder and wackier. Some of the pieces involve several people and are huge.
The show is now held for a week in Wellington for greater exposure and involves dozens of people all choreographed into a two hour show.

This years Supreme winner just happens to come from our home town Motueka. He was cleaning my windows last month- that's his day job.

A local businessman has loaned his car collection of over 200 cars to be displayed next door and altogether it makes a great place to go.

I didn't spend a lot of time taking photos, which are allowed for non-commercial people, and I was surprised how well the ones I did take came out.

My pick is from the Luminous section. Then in extras are Pas de deux,
a dress on a moving track with mirrors behind and a couple of cars.
