Colchicum Autumnale .......

..... the autumn crocus and according to Google this pretty flower is a genuine killer with a number of well-documented cases of accidental poisoning to its credit!  How can this lovely plant with the slender stems be so deadly?  L and I went to the Barnhill Rock Garden in Broughty Ferry today .... there is always something there for a blip.  

There were many clumps of these crocuses but most were lying on the ground looking rather battered .... the slender white stems just can't support the head of the large flowers.
