Secret Valley

We enjoyed a walk from the Hole of Horcum and decided to visit a secluded valley amidst the Heather moorland.

It is rarely walked and contains many self seeding trees. It gives an idea of what the area would have been like without the management which maintains the Heather moorland.

This is a very steep sided valley where the trees cling to the precipitous slope. The light in the woodland was magnificent. The only downside was as we emerged from the valley we encountered deep bracken. Glad to make it back to the main path from Dundale Pond.
