Views of Vicenza and Sirmione

Photo 1: Vicenza

Early morning view from our B&B across the little river Retrone to houses at the rear of Contrà Pigafetta (of which more will be said in a Blip yet to be uploaded).  The Venetian-style house to the right dominates the scene, but despite appearances all the buildings seen here are several centuries old.

The duck colony on the Retrone had the irritating habit of waking very early in the morning and endeavouring to ensure that we humans were reminded of their presence.

Photo 2: Sirmione's 13th century castle (on Lake Garda)

This is the end of the road for all unauthorised motor vehicles.

My second very brief visit to Sirmione: the first was several decades ago, when I took the ferry from Desenzano - at the southern end of the lake - up to Riva del Garda and the Dolomites.  This time we couldn't explore, we had to get to the airport.
