Little and Large

Another busy day - I led a foray today and planned our group's Fungi Night which will hopefully happen in late November - guest speaker and venue sorted!
I didn't get much time to take photos but this was one of our most interesting finds. A young and a mature specimen of the same species - they look quite different, although the colour is consistent. What makes this fungus unmistakeable is the SMELL! It's Tricholoma sulphureum - the Sulphur Knight, which smells very strongly of coal gas. It  seems somehow appropriate that we found it alongside a railway track.
Apologies for having got horribly behind in my comments. There aren't enough hours in the day at the moment!
