Arizona's center

It's not exactly the center of the state. This is the "center point for measuring the state’s land."* Monument Hill is a 150-foot hill in Avondale, southwest of downtown Phoenix.

The river is the Gila River, which used to be the southern border of the United States. Southern Arizona and parts of New Mexico were purchased from Mexico in 1853. The territory was then surveyed from this spot.
