Plymouth, MA

Perversely, we finished our trip round New England at the place where it all began, Plymouth Rock.

This small beach is reputed to be the spot where the pilgrims on The Mayflower first set foot on land and this memorial now covers a stone (with the date, 1620) which you can just see behind the railings in the archway. The stone is claimed to be the one they used to step on land but apparently there is som doubt about this as the claim wasn't made until over 100 years later

A (rather modern -looking) replica of The Mayflower is moored next to the spot where I took this. We had a quick walk along the sea front and rond the town before heading for Boston Airport where we're now waiting for our flight.
