Yellowstone

Today we drove through the Grand Tetons and into the adjoining Yellowstone National Park.

It was rather different from what we were expecting. The scenery wasn't particularly spectacular, although I think it may have been on the the way out but it was raining by then and nearly dark so not at its best. Still impressive however in the clouds and mist.

The geothermal features were good but, Kiwis will be pleased to know, not quite up to Rotorua in my opinion.
We saw the Old Faithful geyser go up, along with a large group of other tourists, mostly Chinese.
It is by far the most touristy place we have visited and considering this is the off season I wouldn't recommend visiting in summer.

The highlight of the day was seeing a bear (see extras). No one seemed quite certain whether it was a black or a grizzly but on reseaching on the web I'm pretty sure it's a grizzly.
Are there any bear experts out there?
It was a fair way off :-) and looked pretty big.
We also saw other wildlife including a big herd of bison right beside the road.
