Fruits of Autumn

The little village of Slindon near Chichester has a pumpkin/squash mural each year at this time, in aid of charity, this year the RNLI. The sun was in the wrong place to photograph it by the time I arrived. But the colourful mass of squash is always attractive. They grow over 50 varieties here.

40 years ago the couple who live in Pumpkin Cottage decided to start this mural building, a tradition which has carried on after the husband's death in 2009. The sons are now involved and responsible for raising money for charity and bringing more visitors to the village. With names like Heart of Gold and Sunburst, the whole thing is a feel good event. Good for them!

The names are nothing if not poetic, and here's a poem celebrating just that. Sorry I don't know the author to give credit.
