Focus testing time tonight, "Was it really that lens that was way out, a while back? Or was it the camera?" Hard to tell precisely with the original suspect ultra wide-angled lens, as so much seems to be in focus. So a test with a wide aperture short telephoto lens, at maximum aperture. There's not much depth of field with that, especially if you get as close as possible to the target.

The only way I managed to get the number "2" in focus with the suspect camera was by adjusting it's "autofocus fine tune" to the maximum (-20) for the lens, along with another maximum (-20) for the camera body. Pardon the expression, but that's crap! Now to check that same lens on another camera without any of that "autofocus fine tune" set, and we have the above photo. Nothing wrong with this lens, and this camera's spot on, as far as I'm concerned.

What now to do with the dodgy camera? Use it permanently set to those maximum settings; send it off for a service; or sell it. Darned nuisance, as I like using it, and the sensor is better all around than that in the camera that took tonight's snap.
