Hive

Not a hive obviously but this cairn is very hive-like. It also calls to mind the hive-shaped cells of monks living in remote places. I don't actually like cairns on the shore...I'm more of the 'leave it as you found it' sort, but the amount of labour that has gone into this one is impressive. A fan of Andy Goldsworthy no doubt.

Circumstances have reduced my expeditions for a bit. The weather forecast was poor so I thought I'd go for a town/shore walk from Stromness to Ness Point and up toward Breckness. There was a nice family of shelduck on the shore and quite a few arctic and great skuas. The Arctics were harassing arctic terns but I saw the terns also gang up on the skuas.
