The World Health Organisation estimates that 285 million people worldwide are visually impaired. 39 million of these people are blind.

90% of people with visual impairment live in low-income settings.

The WHO estimates that 80% of people living with visual impairment could have their sight restored following treatment or surgery; however more often than not medical treatment is unavailable to the worlds poorest people.

IMPACT's projects to prevent and treat needless disability include providing operations or treatment to restore sight. We take the hospital to the people  across Africa and Asia - through our mobile clinics and surgical camps; our travelling Lifeline Express hospital train in India, and floating hospital Jibon Tari ship in Bangladesh.

Thanks to links with local partners on the ground sight restoring surgery costs on average just £40. This World Sight Day why not give the gift of vision to someone?
