Where the Light Gets In

By DHThomas

Power nap

it was earlier
on friday
than on other days

I had helped organise a day in a community belonging to the Emmaüs network. People who have no other means of living can come and ask for shelter. They will be taken in in exchange for work: the community receives all kinds of things people discard. They sell what is still in a good enough condition as it is the way they sustain themselves. I worked with people (hailing from Cameroon, Senegal, Albania etc.) in the clothes department in the morning, in the books department in the afternoon. A change of scenery for the six of us - five colleagues and me.

I couldn't take photos there, so I chose one that illustrates the fact that I had to get up an hour earlier than usual to get there.
