Wry billed plover

A great trip with the Nature Photography Club members led by Steve Attwood. Went to the Ashley River, and saw all sorts of birds.

The wry billed plover Anarhynchus frontalis is a very special little bird, being the only bird in the world with a laterally bent bill - always to the right. They nest on shingle river beds and are endangered due to habitat destruction, thoughtless people taking vehicles onto the river bed, and introduced predators.

Extras are photos of the bird feeding, and the nest which is just a scoop in the sand, which the female lines with tiny pebbles.
