Topiary

This picture shows less than half of the Italian garden at Whitbourne Hall in Herefordshire (I didn't have a wide enough lens to fit it all in). It has been there for more than 150 years. Once a year it is cut back and the trimmings are sold for use in the production of tamoxifen which is used in the treatment of breast cancer. This almost pays for the cost of the "haircut".
