Tranby House

Tranby house, was built Early in 1830, by Joseph Hardey.
An experienced Yeoman Farmer from Yorkshire England. Who arrived in Western Australia by the the ship Tranby.
During January of that year he settled upon this spot alongside the Swan River, this home was the first to be established in the District..

We haven't been here in quite some time, this home now belongs to the National Trust, we met a lady here and what she didn't know about this early settler and his family wasn't worth mentioning, Hardey came here on the old wooden ship Tranby, with his wife and 6 cattle and half a dozen sheep, his wife fell pregnant on the boat (that in itself is amazing!) she went on to have 9 children, the land and weather was very harsh indeed, a true pioneer of the time.
the house contained so much memorabilia of the 1800's, we felt we had been taken back in time as we were led from room to room. Outside the house was surrounded by 4 old oak english trees, magnificent trees! apparently someone, just recently, has just taken 4 of the fallen nuts from one of the trees back to Yorkshire to be planted where he used to live.
A very interesting Sunday afternoon, there was a lovely quaint cafe close by along the swan river which made the most delicious cakes..
