The Scientist

Today is Ada Lovelace day. She was one of the first computer programmers and worked with Charles Babbage in 1842 in Manchester on the world's first programmable computer.
My favourite radio programme is The Life Scientific in which Jim Al-KhalilI interviews scientists about their life and work. To celebrate women in science, today's interviewee was Professor Danielle George who is an astrophysicist, engineer and all round genius. She said that as a little girl she was always curious about the natural world and how things worked. She used to pull the wings off dead insects and look at them under a microscope. Our shed contains a rich source of dead insects having been left unswept for many months so I found a dead hoverfly, pulled its wing off and photographed it for tiny Tuesday, hosted by Jensphotos
It is a little work of brilliant engineering.
