Farewell to Chicago

I'm always amazed by how much we get done on the day after a marathon. If it'd been me running it, I'd have spent the day lying on my bed, softly moaning. But Mme Tepeka always wants to get up and out, so we spent the early part of the day wandering around Millennium Park and Grant Park, and down to the lake shore.

Later, we strolled back over to the Art Institute of Chicago, a truly impressive gallery stuffed with more Monets, Manets, Van Goghs and Picassos than a single museum should rightfully have. We also saw Edward Hopper's classic Nighthawks and Grant Wood's iconic American Gothic, plus the slightly-smaller version of the Lincoln Memorial statue that's featured in the extras.

The stop-start nature of browsing an art gallery finally got to Mme Tepeka's aching muscles, so we headed off for a late lunch before catching the metro to O'Hare Airport to say our goodbyes to the city.

It was an absolutely fantastic weekend. Chicago vastly exceeded our expectations - it's beautiful, friendly, easy to walk around, and we barely scratched the surface of things to do. We'll definitely be back.
