Sunny Afternoon on the Tyne

We went for a walk from Newburn to Wylam today, along the River Tyne just west of Newcastle. Our route took us out along the north side of the river and back along the south side.  There were several rowers on the river; these ones looked like novices (?fresher students) but were actually doing pretty well. I liked the way the light shone on them. You can also see a sculpture of a standing rower on the far bank behind them. (Best viewed large.)

At the half-way point we stopped for lunch at The Boathouse pub in Wylam. It offers a choice of 14 hand-pulled beers, and describes itself as "Arguably the best pub in the world". That's a tough claim to substantiate - or to challenge - but their steak pie with mushy peas was certainly good. The "extra" shows the bar itself, with my glass of the locally brewed "Cheeky Beaky" beer ready for drinking. It was excellent!
