International Day of #Ruralwomen #IDRW

Today marks the United Nations 'International Day of Rural Women.'

IMPACT works hard to implement our programmes in remote and undeserved communities.

In Bangladesh, IMPACT’s action in Meherpur and Chuadanga districts reaches some of the poorest women in rural areas. We work with female community health workers, like Shahana pictured above, who visit secondary schools to talk to students about puberty, menstrual hygiene, how to make their own sanitary protection, and the importance of eating food rich in iron.  This helps them deal with their monthly menses with dignity and avoid absenteeism, which is common amongst menstruating girls in the developing world.

This project is just one example of how we are working alongside rural women to support them in taking their health and that of their families into their own hands.
