Meanwhile, at the coast..

And........

......before I go any further I'm going to come clean, this photograph was taken yesterday, after I'd already blipped about the blood boilers and tripe cleaners, so I'm definitely 'cheating' by the old blip rules......but there's a back story worth recording.....

I nipped round to the corner shop yesterday afternoon to find that a couple of guys were peeling back old shop signage at the tandoori takeaway next door.....back to the days when it used to be a fish and chip shop in the 70's and way beyond (this was part of one probably from the 50's)......but the bottom layer was a handpainted (and signed by the artist) stormer, probably dating back to the early part of the 20th century (given the phone number). So I posted a few images on some local Facebook groups before they covered it up again with a flashy new sign (and give the guys their due, they were VERY careful not to do any damage, they were so impressed with it!!).....anyway it caused a positive flood of memories (from past and present locals) of the shops that used to be along that stretch, all the butchers, bakers, greengrocers (y'know, PROPER shops!), in fact I think we've come up with an almost complete back-catalogue for the last 70 years between us.
Sometimes Facebook DOES have its uses......

PS.....Oh, and apparently Fred Tordoff was also a semi-professional musician as well as a signwriter........and his son, Fred junior (b 1939), is a marine artist living in America.......
