Life in Newburgh on Ythan

Flies and wolves

I set off this morning in search of slime moulds, but found none. Instead I came back with a young fly agaric and, as an "extra", three wolf farts in their farting prime.

The first known written account of the fly agaric was by Albertus Magnus who recorded it in his work De vegetabilibus some time before 1256, commenting vocatur fungus muscarum, eo quod in lacte pulverizatus interficit muscas, (it is called the fly mushroom because it is powdered in milk to kill flies).
