Magnificent rock formations

We left one person continuing his quest of walking the South West Coast Path while we three others relaxed our legs and feet. After dropping him at Porthleven to walk to Lizard Point we drove to Mullion Cove.

This small cove with its harbour and historic buildings has been preserved by the National Trust. It has an amazing outcrop of rock formations surrounding it and continuing into the sea. The photo was taken near the harbour wall. It shows I think hornblende schist rocks with colourful lichen and plants growing on the top parts.

We continued our travels to Kennack Sands where we found more interesting rock formations running out onto the sandy beach. Then onto Cadgwith a delightful fishing village where I bought a book on the local geology. Now I need to go back to identify all the different rocks in this area.

A great geological day with so much photographic potential.
