Pending gloom

The days are shortening quickly and on overcast days like today the light has gone by 5.30.  I liked the edginess that the passing car brings to this photo.  Adds a sense of urgency to the pending gloom. In the background the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin on Mogiltsah.  The church enjoys the distinction of a mention in Tolstoy's "War and Peace".  First mention of a church on this site was in 1560.  The current structure built between 1791 and 1806. This is what it looked like during Tolstoy's life and when used a municipal storeroom during the USSR with the cupola removed.

Blipped on 18 March 2014 - in a brighter context.
