Spitfire

Under leaden skies we headed to Montrose. A visit to the House of Dun was on the cards, but the house was closed so we managed a walk around the garden and a coffee at the cafe which was fairly busy, despite the house itself being closed.

On the way back to Aberdeen the little boy in me could not resist stopping off the the Montrose Air Station. This was the first military airfield in Britain and continued in service, with a break in the 1920's until 1952. Nothing other than a helicopter will be taking off from there now as most of the airfield is now an industrial estate.

A small heritage museum, and perhaps a ghost, are all that remain on the part of Britain's heritage.
