Melody

After watching lots of youtube videos of people playing the musical saw I decided to get one. Lots of internet research later.... I ordered the 30 " Parkstone Melody saw, from Thomas Flinn and co in Sheffield. You can use a regular saw from hardware shops too - but this one is designed specifically for playing as an instrument.

It arrived this morning, along with a violin bow, rosin, and a 'cheat', which is a piece of wood to use to bend the saw. The 'cheat' is optional, but makes the bending much easier to do. It's a lot harder to play than those youtube videos make it look! But I've managed to get some sounds out of it already, and am looking forward to being able (after lots and lots of practise) to play it so that it sounds beautiful, rather than sounding like a strangled cat as it does now.

Here's a link to a cool musical saw rendition of the Star Trek theme tune by 'The Saw Lady' :-)
