Sparrow Hawk?

My wife spotted this bird in our garden this afternoon and I managed to get a few photo's of it, does anybody know what it is, we think that it may be a Sparrow Hawk but are not sure can anyone answer this for definite. I do feel sorry for the other birds but it does mean we have a healthy bird population and I do feel lucky to have seen it.
