Green and Grey

We usually stop at Stafford Services on the M6 as the cafe overlooks a small lake. There are a few ducks and this heron came down to the water for a quick look around.
We were on our way to see my Father in Cheshire who is 96 today. He spent his 23rd birthday taking part in the decisive Battle of El Alamein during World War 2. His war memories are fascinating if somewhat rambling, and I'm still not exactly sure what he did on the day, except that they were each given a ration of Steak which they cooked on a petrol stove before the action began.
