To See New Englandly

Frosty Moon

The native Algonquin tribes -- and later the European settlers -- of New England marked each month by its full moon. The full moon of November is referred to as the Beaver Moon; this was the time to set beaver traps, before the swamps froze, to ensure a supply of warm furs for the winter. According to the Farmers' Almanac, the full moon of November is also sometimes called the Frosty Moon.

Although tonight is not technically the full moon, at 30F (-1C), it was indeed frosty. And being a modern Yankee, I donned my polar fleece instead of beaver pelts.
