Back to the future

At 2 am today the clocks changed. I was in the land of nod, so didn't witness this one hour backward step into the future. It seems such a shame that William Willett, who lived near here and whose idea it was to change the clocks in this way, didn't live long enough to see it happen. The debate now is whether changing the clocks every six months should continue, or whether Britain should move to permanent 'summertime' in line with much of the continent. Makes sense to me.

William Willett 1856-1915.
Willett died of influenza, age 58.
'Daylight Saving' enacted with the clocks going forward by one hour for the first time on Sunday 21st May 1916.
