Leaf miner

There was an item on the BBC News this morning today about a new study of the leaf miner that afflicts the leaves of the horse chestnut tree, Aesculus hippocastrum.

So I donned my hunting outfit, including trusty pith helmet, and went in searchof a suitable tree.

This photo is of the insect (Cameraria ohridella) in pupal form before transforming into the adult moth and you can see the wings quite clearly.
The Extra photo shows a whole leaf cluster thus afflicted.

The Wiki article is very informative.
