Torpedo Factory

This building began life in 1905 as offices and workshops for Argyll Motors and was the largest car factory outside the U.S.
The Admiralty took it over in 1914 as a munitions works. For a short time during the depression it was a silk works, then stood empty until the Royal Navy took it over as a torpedo factory from 1935 to 1969. As such, it is still generally referred to locally as the torpedo factory.
It fell into disrepair until the late 1990s when it was renovated and opened as a retail outlet centre [Loch Lomond Factory Outlets; now Lomond Galleries]

Lomond Galleries, Main Street, Alexandria
