Stoney Cove

We went for a coffee and a walk round Stoney Cove this afternoon but by the time we got there all the divers were packing up. I liked the way the sun was shining on the building as it was setting ( gave it a bit of sepia tint )
Another I-phone shot - must remember I have a camera or two !!

Stoney Cove is the UK’s National Diving Centre. Diving first started here around 1960 and as the sport gained popularity Stoney Cove was developed into the amazing underwater adventure park it is today.
The quarry was originally a granite mine dating back to the beginning of the 19th century.  Spring water was a perennial problem for the quarry, but was a boon in 1958 when quarrying at the site ceased. By 1963 diving pioneers were using the quarry to practise their hobby. Over the next fifteen years Stoney Cove was used to train North Sea oil divers
