Today is All Saints Day
This is a day for saluting the memory of the saints, the great saints and the little saints, past and present, known and unknown.
In the times of the early Church a saint was just another name for a Christian. "Called to be saints" says St. Paul.
It may seem that there is no room for sainthood in the modern world, but every age is saved by saints. We must take the idea of sainthood out of it's niche of piety and try and see it as something to be worked out in  daily living. The canonized saints might have been other-worldly in their spiritual lives, but they were also tough, practical and capable.  They weren't saints because they did tremendous things; they were able to do tremendous things because they were saints.
