Govanhill Baths

A B-listed old baths located in the Southside of the City. It was due to be demolished but the community banded together and formed a Trust, which rescued it. The Trust have recently been awarded funding to restore the old baths (there are three in total) and the Chairman of the Trust (who very kindly allowed me a sneaky peak at two of the baths today) hopes that it will be open to the public again in 18 months. They hope that the baths can be used by the local community for relatively low cost, unlike The Western Baths and Arlington Baths, located in the West End of Glasgow, that are run as private members clubs with very lengthy waiting lists. It'll be rather amazing when it's restored. A colleague's partner works as a photographer for the Trust and has been documenting, over the past few years, all of the old artefacts of the building. Will be interesting to see.

The baths were only open today as part of the Sonica art Festival. This exhibit, with dry ice and red flags (not it's not my lousy focusing skills), depicts the rise and fall of political regimes.
