The Cricket on the Heath.

Parking outside the city walls of Beverley called the "North Bar Without" came across this scene carved above a door a little further research on the net proved interesting...

This is a scene from Dickens third Christmas book "The Cricket on the Hearth". It was published in 1845.

In this scene we see the workshop of Caleb Plummer. Behind the toy maker sits his blind daughter, Bertha, by the fire.
Caleb's words in the story were in reality: "I should wish to go as close to Nature’ as I could, for sixpence."
