Sokos Hotel Hamburger Bors, Turku

Very dubious first impressions of this enormous hotel right on the main market square in Turku. A queue practically out of the door to check in, with just two very slow receptionists taking ages to check each individual in. A drunk sitting to one side, who was eventually removed by some ambulance men, but who had turned out to have soiled the settee he was sitting on. I tried to draw the attention of the receptionists to this, but they were not keen to consider what needed to be done. Eventually, someone obviously came and tried to clean up as the settee was roped off later on. It was back in use the following day. Not by me.

I merited a large corner room, but it was literally at the other end of the square. A route march from the lifts. Reasonably comfortable, although there was a bit of traffic noise from the square through the windows. OK, but not stunning wifi that seemed to get worse as the week went on. Bed reasonably comfortable and the requested walk in shower. Decor in corridors and rooms very tired, and there is a certain type of "style" to this hotel that reminds me of some I've seen in central and eastern Europe.

Settling in for a long haul. I have four nights here.
