Slime mould on the grass

What's that on the grass I wondered this morning as I looked out at a round whitish clump of grass.  On closer examination I could see white nodules along the blades of grass.  This should look interesting using a macro lens I thought.

Browsing the web it appears to be Slime Mould (Mucilago crustaceum).   Interestingly it is a primitive organism,  similar to both fungi and single-celled animals. The spore-producing structures of slime moulds can appear on lawns quite suddenly. Apparently no control is usually required, and the structures soon disintegrate to release a mass of spores. They may be found throughout the year, but are most common in late summer and autumn.

So lets hope it doesn't effect the whole lawn or maybe saves it till Christmas as it looks a bit like Christmas decorations.

Otherwise its been a misty cloudy day with the sun finally breaking through late afternoon just before it set.
