Ancient Lakes

Ancient Lakes are the reminders of the Ice Age (Missoula) floods. The glaciers carved coulees hundreds of feet deep that spilled westward out of the Quincy Basin into the Columbia Gorge below. Hiking to Ancient Lakes is an otherworldly experience with towering basalt columns surrounding you. We hiked out to some of the lakes, saw distant waterfalls and were amazed to be alone in this wide open landscape.
